Which is better... a indoor or outdoor cat?

So, I'm hopefully gonna get a kitten, I've heard outdoor is better, and indoor is better.
For a while I was thinking Indoor would be better because they're safe from wild dogs, diseases, cars, and such. But I also thought Outdoor would be better because they wouldn't be stuck inside, of course if they were indoor, I'd play with them outside...

If you have a cat, and you've chosen indoor or outdoor, can you tell me why you chose it?
