Which is better Subway Franchise or having ladies on-line fashion shop?

I'm thinking of starting a business in London but not sure what kind of business will profit me. A friend of mine was telling me about subway franchise and how she thinks it will be more beneficial to me but unfortunately one of subway's franchisee told me that he is running out of lost & that after he pays his expenses including is g subway fees he is literally left with nothing. He said he makes only about £1000 a month as profit which to me is really small based on the amount in which you spend in to set up the whole franchise thing, having a subway franchise cost nothing less than £120000. But I don't know if he is saying the truth though. So I’m thinking should I just open a website for ladies selling ladies shoes, bags, accessories and lingerie? At least, this will cost me less money compared to having a franchise.
I have travelled to China, Thailand and Korea so I know where to source these products at a cheaper rate and good quality. But I am really confused on which direction to go as I do not want to lose money. Firstly, does anyone know whether the online thing will work? Would people be interested in buying this kind of stuff online? Is this type of business profitable? Or is Subway franchise a more profitable business? I will be very grateful if anyone can share their knowledge with me. All advice and opinion are welcome...

or:Oooooooooooooooo, good question! Your Subway franchisee acquaintance (not your friend) may be telling the truth but also may be a terrible business owner/manager. For example did they get a crappy, so-so or excellent location for their shop? And that is only one of many questions. Here's the deal. The food franchise business requires a very large (relatively speaking) up front outlay of money, especially compared to the online store you mentioned. Your potential new Subway franchise can do extremely well if you make it do well. Do you know what this takes?? THAT is the question! Okay, now on to your potential new ladies fashion online store. It also can do extremely well. Do you know what it takes to make THAT happen? The long and the short answer are the same: The buck (or the Euro in your case) stops with you! Responsibility floats upward until it reaches somebody capable of handling it, if such a person is even present. Many failing businesses obviously lack that person! The real question is which of these businesses are YOU most qualified to make successful? The business won't run right or for very long without the correct guidance, which is your job. You need to know every function so you can correct it if and when it goes wrong, and how to make it go right! The term \"turn-key business\" is so funny because it's an oxymoron to those of us that run businesses. People looking to sell you an over-priced franchise or other business for a fat commission love to prey on inexperienced and therefore UN-knowledgeable people and use that term much too loosely. Sounds like you need to study up real good on which ever business direction you decide to go. And that doesn't mean going to college. It means getting to know all the functions of that business, how they work and why, and finding out the relative importance of each! Then you will be qualified to own that business! Cheerio!
