Which way to ride a skateboard?

I normally ride mongo with my right foot pushing the board, but i hear this incorrect.
I want to ride regular but my left foot in front of the board doesn't feel right. I can ride with my right foot in front but my left in the back of the board doesn't allow me to do tricks or allow me to do quick turns.

What do I do?
