or:Nobody really knows yet, the eighth movie might answer that though. Some people think that her dad is Luke and he tried to keep her safe from the first order by hiding her on Jakku with no memory-that would be why she had a connection with his lightsaber, how she was strong with the force quickly, and why r2d2 came back when Rey was near it. I tend to believe that Luke was training her as a jedi, and when Ben Solo wrecked it all, he sent her to Jakku and left her there to keep her safe.
