Why are there no lithium automotive batteries?

or:Lithium-ion batteries have much higher energy density than lead acid batteries. However, they require more care and sophisticated chargers to maintain optimum life span. As such, the lead acid batteries are simply good enough for the task.

or:First, the lead-acid battery is so good that nobody is interested in anything else. Second, there is not enough lithium in the world to supply batteries for all the cars in any one nation.

or:Lithium ion batteries are very expensive for the same energy storage as compared to lead acid which are relatively cheap. Lead acid battery are also very good at delivering very high current required for the starter motor.
