Why does my crush do this?

So i have been trying to get the courage to apologise but im too scared, (he is in the above year). But, all he does is stares. One time i was just waiting for my friend, looking around, to find him just watching me with a slight smirk (not the laughing one the half smile one). So i just looked at him multiple times, until we held eye contact for about 9 seconds, and we smiled at each other. And, yesterday, i got up out of my seat, and started to walk with my friends and he watched me the whole way. Also, whenever im not looking, he looks at me, and tries to show off often. Help?
