Clearly if she had such British lineage then she would not have been able to marry Prince William as she would have been a close blood relation. She is of course English and does not come from a foreign royal family. Therefore, on her marriage to Prince William - who took the title, Duke of Cambridge, she became the Duchess of Cambridge.
