Why must I commemorate ANZAC day?

Last ANZAC day everyone was getting annoyed with me because I didn't want to wake up at 5 am to go to the reunion thing. My friends started to get angry at me since I showed a lack of motivation. I pretended that I actually cared but honestly I don't really. I understand that they went through horrors and were forced into the circumstances but why must I go for a half an hour walk at 5 am, to show gratitude to people whom are deceased. I understand I sound heart-less but that's why I'm asking online and not someone I know. People would judge me for being so apathetic. So why don't I feel what everyone else feels? What am I missing? Please give me some guidance.
