Why people don't listen to advice?

Someone has a problem, usually not a big problem, but still. I give someone advice and feel as if I'm not heard, only seen. I know my advice is good and practical, but it's just something they will do if nothing else works.

Don't get me wrong I love my friends and family, they're the best. but I usually feel left out when my friends are trying to make a decision. Not like I'm being ignored, just overlooked. It sometimes gets frustrating.

or:You have to first understand WHY they are asking the question. People often express fears in the hopes that others will comfort them. They don't really want advice, they want support. By giving advice you are saying that you know more about the subject than they do. For example, this post coming from me to you. I am a Psychotherapist with over 30 years experience. I have now set myself up as an expert and can prove that I have more knowledge about the subject and have a greater understanding of the question you have put forth. You are likely reacting with annoyance at my superior tone and you may even feel attacked. What you really wanted was for me to simple agree with you and say something like, \"Yeah, they never listen do they.\"

or:Easy answer - Because you are probably telling them what they need to hear and not what they want to hear.

or:Most people just want to hear a second opinion, but don't care much to take it. They'll do what they want to, either way.
