If God is all-knowing, then He knows what we want and what we need. He knows all our thoughts and everything about us. If He knows His plan for our lives and how to best accomplish that plan, then why pray? Specifically, why pray with requests and/or to thank him or anything if He already knows all this?

or:You actually do have to tell him, it's kind of saying that you don't want to talk to somebody but you expect them to do something for you.

or:Christians are hypocrites. See Matthew 6:5-6 about Jesus' instruction of how to pray.

or:Prayer is an instrument of the church to remind you to be obedient and reinforces your reliance on religion. The church (whichever) want you to be in conversation with God so that you will think he is there, in reality no-one is talking back, this is why people who say they can hear God talking to them are institutionalized. Faith is religions way of preventing you from empirically testing the teachings of your own particular flavour of religion. If you do believe in God then you must realize he gave you a questioning mind to use, it's a catch-22.

or:Illustration: If you know someone love you but never expresses it. If the person does not speak to you about his or her feelings or why they love you. Would you just accept that because the person believe you know they love you it is not necessary to communicate their feelings to you. Would that be acceptable to you? Communication is very important to humans. It is much more important to the Creator he expresses this in the bible James 4:8 to draw close to him and he will draw close to you. Don't forget he is invisible. He becomes visible only when you communicate with him in prayer. Prayer is not an empty ritual, nor is it merely a means by which to gain something. A major reason for approaching God is to have a close relationship with him. Our prayers should therefore be directed to the Creator who is near to all those calling upon him,\u201d said the psalmist David. (Psalm 145:18) The Creator who has a name psalm 83:18 invites us to come into a peaceful relationship with him.
