Why would one buy a Kindle versus a Tablet?

10 yr old granddaughter wants a Kindle to read books. Wont the Tablet do the same thing and offer more than reading. I know nothing about tablets. or:

or:Hello. I'm looking for a tablet for myself, and I've been reading a lot of guides. According to the reviews I read, the Kindle Fire is an excellent tablet. The only thing that turned me off of it was that it was based completely around Kindle. I have nook books so that wouldn't work. :P I don't know for sure though, I just read a bunch of guides/reviews. Read them and see for yourself. It should be better than just a normal kindle ebook at least.
