Would you be annoyed with your neighbour going through the communal bins?

6 months ago I moved into a block of flats with my boyfriend and we have communal bins out the back. One of our neighbours is an elderly man who lives alone and we have noticed he is rummaging through the bins everyday. We throw away old food that has gone way past it’s sell by date and food that has gone really mouldy. The next day we find items we have thrown out on our neighbours table which he has outside his front door. We have seen week old yoghurts we have thrown out appear on his table, mouldy cream cheese that was literally green when we threw it out and even leftovers of our chinese takeaways. It started to annoy me but I wondered on others views? Once we have thrown things away in the communal bins do those items then become communal for anyone to have or do we still have a right to privacy?

It’s making me feel uncomfortable also because I threw away 2 positive pregnancy tests recently, they were bagged up but we know he opens bags up looking to see what’s in them. And sorry to be graphic but I also bag up my sanitary towels and we saw he ripped that bag open too looking for food. I put personal things in the communal bins and I bag them up to make it private but I can’t stop him ripping the bags open! It’s now making me feel uneasy about what I am throwing away and I feel like I shouldn’t have to be cautious about what I am binning.

I just wondered if anyone feels the same and thinks we should have a word with him or just leave it?

or:I would be highly disappointed in myself for considering the sell date as a strict deadline rather than a recommendation, having more groceries than I can consume or prepare ere spoilage, ordering & discarding excess sustenance, and mostly for having more pathos for myself than towards the elderly and destitute.See, my grandmother survived the holocaust on literal refuse (think potato skins, on a good day) whilst avoiding capture under threat of death, so to live in luxury and indifference to the REAL WORLD would be the greatest insult imaginable to my ancestry.I pity you, penny. I understand you may have a severe issue with hygiene, bordering on disorder, but this is about as much sympathy as you'll receive from society when you don't even pretend to have a conscience.
