À cette époque, compte tenu du prix de l’or, les teneurs n’étaient pas suffisamment élevées pour mener à une exploitation économiquement rentable. Malgré cela, de 1944 à 2001, quelques travaux d’exploration sporadiques ont été effectués et les claims ont changé plusieurs fois de propriétaire.Ce n’est qu’une dizaine d’années plus tard, en 2011, que la compagnie Alexandria Minerals mettra en valeur le gisement Akasaba Ouest lors de travaux de forages menant à un premier calcul de ressources aurifères.En janvier 2014, Agnico Eagle s’est porté acquéreur du site et a entamé une campagne de forages d’exploration qui a menée a la réalisation d’une étude de faisabilité concernant le projet Akasaba Ouest.
