Its goal is to publish, promote, and comment on writing and art in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and the world. We hope you enjoy reading the work selected for this thirty-fifth issue (AQ35) and we look forward to your comments at [email protected] or submissions at [email protected]. Please see the submissions page for the change in compensation to artists and writers for their work starting with AQ33 (spring 2022).AQ35’s theme is City and/or Country. It includes work set in urban and/or rural environments in the genres of fiction, memoir, news, photography, poetry, and review. In addition, this issue is a historic, artistic milestone for AQ. It included the largest group of photographic submissions ever!The theme for AQ36, submission period January 2023, is No Planet B. The themes for AQ37 and AQ38 are still to be determined. These will be posted on the AQ website in mid-November 2022.Thirty-fifth IssueAmsterdam Quarterly’s thirty-fifth issue about City and/or Country features work in six different genres: fiction, memoir, news, photography, poetry, and review. Headlining this issue are 1980s memoirs by bart plantenga and Katacha Díaz about living in New York City’s East Village and an eco-village in Davis, California respectively. There is fiction about an inner-city teenager wanting a gold tooth and an Australian encountering a wild cat while camping in the forest by Katherine Gustafson and Karen Lethlean respectively, and a combination of city and/or country photos by Gaby Bedetti, James M. Hodge, Edward Lee, Susan E. Lloy, Kevin Vivers, Bob Ward, and Ray Zhang.As usual, there is an embarrassment of riches related to poetry about urban and/or rural environments by Polly Brown, Claudia Gary, Jasper Glen, James M. Hodge, Sandhya Krishnakumar, Donna J. Gelagotis Lee, Timothy Liu, Uchechukwu Onyedikam, Evelyn Posamentier, and Eoin Rogers. In addition, there are reviews of Jacob M. Appel’s Shaving with Occam and Pat Seman’s Ariadne’s Thread, and news about AQ poets Claudia Gary’s and Bryan R.
