My name is Avery Alder, and for the past thirteen years I’ve been designing tabletop roleplaying games. These are games about community, relationships, doubt, queerness, and the collapse of civilization. I hope they inspire you. The Quiet Year The Quiet Year is a map game. You define the struggles of a post-apocalyptic community, and attempt to build something good within their quiet year. Every decision and every action is set against a backdrop of dwindling time and rising concern. Dream Askew Dream Askew is a game about queer community amidst the apocalypse. It gives us ruined buildings, haunted faces, strange new psychic powers, fierce queer love, and turbulent skies, asking “What do you do next?” Dream Apart Dream Apart (by Benjamin Rosenbaum) gives us demons and wedding jesters; betrothals and pogroms; mystical ascensions and accusations of murder; rabbi’s daughters running away to be actresses or bandits or boy soldiers; the sounds of the shofar ringing through cramped and muddy streets, of cannon fire, of the wolf’s footfalls in the snowy pine forest; asking “What do you do next?” Monsterhearts 2 Monsterhearts 2 lets you and your friends create stories about sexy monsters, teenage angst, personal horror, and secret love triangles. When you play, you explore the terror and confusion of having a body that is changing without your permission. Variations on Your Body Finding girlhood through witchcraft and bravery through stray feathers. Reaching back to ancient magics and forward to alien encounters. Variations on Your Body is a collection of four games, loosely defined – each straddles the line between poetry, roleplay, self-help, and magical invitation. They’re all solo pervasive games, meant to be played in the margins of your life. Ribbon Drive Ribbon Drive is a game about road trips, music, and self-discovery. Our ultimate goal is to create a thought-provoking, meaningful experience. We let the music guide us. We let the road throw us curves. Little games and free offerings. Brave Sparrow is an alternate reality experience, a game for one, a journey toward recovering your wings. A Place to Fuck Each Other is a game about tentative relationships formed between queer women. It’s about community, uncertainty, hooking up, and moving in. Perfect, Unrevised is a game about criminals within a Dark Victorian dystopia. It’s about what makes them tick, the crimes they commit, the goals they strive for, and the persecution they may well face. Abnormal is a game of body horror, breaking down the lines between natural and unnatural, witness and witnessed, human and other. For 1-3 players. Heart of Ashes is a game about children lost in a dangerous, fantastic world. It’s about children, adults, magic, and war. Simple World is a low-barrier guide for creating streamlined games in the vein of Apocalypse World. Buried Without Ceremony  •  Avery Alder  •  Email: [email protected]
