My researchinterests, shaped over years of working on a number of applied problems inphysics, mathematics and neuroscience, revolve around the question of buildingtools for computational research across all scientific domains.I am convinced that we need better tools for scientific computing, and that ourefforts to build them based on the Python language can make a significantdifference to how scientific research is conducted and disseminated. I createdthe IPython project while a graduate student in 2001, which has now evolvedinto the large and collaborative `Project Jupyter`_, where a talented team doesall the hard work. I am an active member of the community that creates freelyavailable scientific computing tools around the SciPy stack, I regularlylecture about scientific computing in Python and I am a founding board member ofthe NumFOCUS foundation. The Py4Science page contains moredetails on this. You can contact me via email or Twitter.NoteAs should be obvious from the dates below, this site is sadly in a horriblesate of maintenance and badly outdated at this point in time.News¶March 2013I was awarded the 2012 Award for the Advancement of Free Software for thecreation of IPython and my contributions to the Open Source Scientific Pythonecosystem. UC Berkeley also put out a more detailed release.March 2011I’ve finally gathered the slides for our minisymposium on Python forScientific computing at the SIAM CSE 2011 conference(blog post andpictures).March 2011The Sage Days 29 workshop was a success on multiple fronts, and inparticular for IPython we made a ton of progress.Older news …Contact¶Fernando PerezEmailfernando.perez@berkeley.edu (primary)fperez@lbl.govOfficeEvans Hall 419Phone: (510) 642-9968Fax : (510) 642-7892PostStatistics Department367 Evans HallUniversity of California, BerkeleyBerkeley, CA 94720-3860 Navigation next Home » © Copyright 2010, Fernando Pérez.
