Photo by Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) GAIA - Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre“a once-in-a-lifetime experience, right here in Hartlepool’Though the festival weekend may be over, we also have the exquisite GAIA by Luke Jerram in Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre from 12pm - 6pm each day until Saturday 16th July. Come and bear witness to the spectacular replica of planet Earth as internationally renowned Luke Jerram returns to Hartlepool this July, bringing his touring artwork ‘Gaia’ to a secret location within the town, allowing visitors to gaze upon the earth as if from space. Luke exhibited at last year’s Waterfront Festival, at a pop-up site in Seaton Park, and most recently in Durham Cathedral with Museum of the Moon. WHO WE AREHartlepool Waterfront Festival is a large-scale outdoor arts festival, situated in the heart of Hartlepool’s historic marina. The festival is ran on a Pay-What-You-Decide basis, meaning all visitors to the festival will be able to make anonymous donations based on what they felt their experience was worth. All money received is then used to provide additional creative activities at the next festival. We have enjoyed Hartlepool Waterfront Festival’s since 2017, each building on the former’s success. We have welcomed artists and performers from all over the world to Hartlepool, spanning music, theatre, dance, visual art, spoken word and more. We also love to work closely with local creatives and have commissioned numerous new pieces to be presented at the festival or associated projects, with the aim of developing exciting and relevant work for our audience and providing support for the artist themselves.During the COVID-19 pandemic, we extended our hand into the various communities of Hartlepool and beyond to engage with our audiences that had been starved of creative activity during the lockdowns. This came in the form of ‘Little Waterfronts’, a string of pop-up events, taking place in the different wards in the town and ‘Trails of the Unexpected’, a series of online videos, exploring weird and wonderful ways of staying creative, under testing conditions. The festival is supported by our fantastic partners and funders. More information on this can found here.Relive some of the highlights, or peruse some of our past projects here.
