Skip to main navigation BiographyErgo MovementWhat We DoWho We AreWorkDonateEventsVideoContact Menu  BIOGRAPHY Jessie Owens is a performing artist, choreographer and bodywork practitioner. She is the founder of ERGO/movement, a collaborative performance project based in Vermont. Her intentions within this venture are to make candid and accessible works, to expand the appreciation of dance and performance on a local scale in Vermont, and to foster collaborative relationships with other artists and performers. Jessie creates site-specific works, as well as works for stage, studio, film, and small spaces. In addition to her work with ERGO/movement, Jessie collaborates and performs with many other Vermont-based artists. She holds a BA in Dance and a minor in German Studies from Smith College, where she attended as an Ada Comstock scholar, or a non-traditional student. She is a certified massage therapist, a certified yoga instructor, and is a graduate student in an Embodiment Studies Program at Goddard College. She is currently pursuing a Structural Integration certification and is completing an Integral Fascial Yoga Teacher Training. She teaches embodiment and myofascial release practices, leads retreats, and is the proprietor of Fulcrum Massage and Bodywork. From 2002 to 2012, she performed with Burlington’s Spielpalast Cabaret, a non-profit dance and theater company modeled after German Weimar Era cabarets, and was the group’s art director and co-producer from 2005 until 2013. She co-produced performances annually in Burlington and throughout Vermont, as well as the group’s venture to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2011.
