Picture Books Middle Grade YA About Menu Mary Claire Cruz CHILDREN'S BOOK DESIGNER Picture Books Middle Grade YA About It’s me, Mary Claire (she/they)!Thanks for checking out my work.I work as an Associate Art Director at Penguin Workshop designing books for all ages. I oversee designers working on the PYR Licensing and Mad Libs titles, while designing my own books for the Workshop list and select brands. After hours I bake bread, tend to my Stardew Valley crops, and play in RPG campaigns. Yes, I’m a huge nerd! Before my days in publishing, I grew up in the suburbs just outside of Philly and graduated with a BFA in Graphic & Interactive Design from Tyler School of Art (Go Owls!?) The books I’ve designed have featured on bestseller lists and recognized in art and design shows. I participate in panels and various learning opportunities to share my experiences in design with others. A favorite was the “How to Speak Like a Designer” CBC panel discussing the book design process and the importance of collaboration in my job.I'm always open to new projects, discussing my work, or helping aspiring book designers find their footing in this industry.
