WHAT UMBS ATTENDEES HAVE TO SAY Testimonials I don't know what it was about that summit, but it was probably the only one I've attended that felt like it was in-person even though it was virtual! I really enjoyed the sessions, and it resulted in some significant connections that are continuing for me today! Kudos to you both whatever magic you put into the planning process to bring that about! Mindy Peterson Each day had at least two sessions that were life-altering. The conference is bursting with useful material and helpful people. I think most musicians will find content that addresses needs they have, and in many cases, needs they didn't know about. Christopher Lee Fraley The ideas are so varied, doable, and translatable to many ways of "doing music." Also, most of the presenters really pushed the mentality of serving the customer/audience/community, which I really like. I felt like my music training, esp. in college, pushed serving music itself, which caused me some distress. I really appreciate the perspective of serving people with our art. Heather Niemi Savage I absolutely recommend UMBS to other musicians. In short, I would tell them, it's reassuring. I think a lot of us musicians succumb to a scarcity mindset, where we're all competing with others just to barely survive, all because we were not offered the resources to create a business out of the work we do. As many folks have said, "They don't teach these skills in college." It is scary and intimidating, but apparently, I'll be saving time in the long-run by consolidating my services and creating a business. Mari Esabel Valverde There were excellent suggestions, outstanding presentations, and I made good connections. The presenters were all very well prepared and offered useful info. I've benefitted by reaching beyond patterns, revamping certain business decisions, and maintaining relationships more regularly Judith Shatin Musicians need to think and work in a business environment, not just a creative niche. It was beneficial to learn more about creating email templates, seeking local business grants, and better engagements with clients/audience. R. Michael Daugherty What did I find as a result of the summit? While I am doing (and have done) a lot of things right, there are untapped avenues yet to explore. The summit was a great value and informative. Bob Moore UMBS really helped me to think about my teaching business in a new (and better) way. I think this is going to be a good year business-wise! Even those who may think they've got stuff figured out could find a lot to learn, and those just taking the first steps to being a business-minded musician will of course find a treasure trove of information.
