W4RES will run until October 2023 by an international consortium of 12 partners coming from 8 European countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Slovakia. A balanced union joining forces and expertise on renewable energy sources research & advocacy, innovative business lines development and women advocacy. View project HyFlow: Development of a sustainable hybrid storage system based on high power vanadium redox flow battery and supercapacitor – technology Timeline Funding programme The consortium will build upon lab-scale and industrial application-scale experimental data to derive models and algorithms for the EMS development and the optimization of existing VRFB and SC components. An industry-scale demonstrator (300 kW scale) provides the possibility to test even the fastest grid-services like virtual inertia. Outputs of the project support the whole value-chain and life cycle of HESS by developing new materials and components and adding them together with an innovative EMS. The development of the above described HESS especially through the flexible EMS allows a plethora usage potentials to be assessed. This will lead to the grid integration of the HESS where the full potential of the flexibility can thoroughly be qualified and optimized for market requirements. View project Heat it yourself for sustainability : circularity in energy intensive industries Timeline Funding programme LIFE HI4S aims to develop and validate an innovative cost-effective combined heat and electricity production plant from the waste heat contained in the off-gas of an electric arc furnace within the steel making industry. This waste heat re-use plant will employ a TES system based on the steel slag generated in the steelworks, and will save around 37.5 GWhe /year. The TES will be used for scrap pre-heating and self-power supply. The project is in line with the priorities of the Green Deal for full economic decarbonisation; it encourages disruptive technologies with a high potential for improving energy efficiency, especially in energy-intensive industries that generate large amounts of waste heat. The project also promotes the circular economy industrial policy.
