Recent talks and materials (full list) '19 Jan 24 Dynamic Generation talk at JAMstack NYC (slides, video) ux speed '18 Dec 5 UX Capture Library Show & Tell at Open Source NYC ux speed '18 Nov 27 Capturing Speed of User Experience Using UserTiming API talk at NY Web Performance Meetup ux speed '17 Dec 14-15 Integrating Web Performance Best Practices On-line Training at O'Reilly Safari Books On-line web performance Speaker Bio If you'd like to invite me to speak at your event, please send me a note. You can grab my speaker bio and photos here. How Do You Say Your Name? People often ask how to pronounce my name in English context and I can't blame you - it's tough to do as it originally has plenty of Russian-specific letters and sounds (don't get me wrong, I had to correct plenty of Russian documents to fix the misspellings too). As a result, I created an English pronounciation which is hopefully not as hard. And I use it myself every day so don't feel bad about it. Your browser doesn't support HTML5 audio. Here is a link to the audio instead. Meetups I've organized New York Web Performance Group - you can check meeting schedule over at Meetup.com. I also help other organizers and run organizer's mailing list, if you are already running a group or want to start one, let me know. UX Speed Projects I built a few web-performance (as in "UX speed") tools over the years and they are open source: UX Speed Calculator - a visualization tool that helps understand relationship between page speed, conversion and bounce rates. Does not require a real data (e.g. RUM) and lets you tweak the distributions yourself (2019) UX Capture - UX metric instrumentation methodology, JavaScript library and React components. (2016, 2018) Also inclides a sample React, Gatsby and NextJS apps to help with understanding how things work. We developed this project together with my colleagues at Meetup as open source software. Slowness Kills - speed evangelism project with a morbid twist (2017) Speed Selector - a prototype of visual metric analysis approach using WebPageTest's Speed Index calculations (2016) This approach (not the code) is now used in WebPageTest's Visual Metrics tool (under the name of "hero elements times") originally implemented by Joseph Wynn of SpeedCurve. Visual Metrics tools is also used in SiteSpeed.io's Browsertime. Some background in their changelog. None of it would be possible without Patrick Meenan, creator of WebPageTest and Speed Index metric itself and standalone Visual Metrics tool. WebPageTest launcher - Chrome extension that does one thing - lunches WebPageTest.org with current URL and speeds up WPT-addict's workflow (2015) High performance drop-in .htaccess file for your site - simple config file for your Apache that make the site automagically faster (2010) ShowSlow - now deprecated, synthetic performance monitoring tool (2009). I also ran a public instance (sponsored by Blaze.io and then Akamai) that crawled your URLs and tracked metrics over time. 360 Panoramas I like making 360 panorama photos and videos. My photos on Google Maps have over 10M views. on my site on Google Maps as Google Local Guide Treasure Scanner Treasure Scanner is a barcode and QR code scanner that is fun to use. Use Treasure Scanner as a regular bar code or QR code scanner, but earn points and find hidden treasures every time you scan. Some codes are also special and have collectible items inside. Download on the App Store or get it on Google Play Treasure Scanner home page Note To Self Note to self helps you quickly send email to your own email address If you ever sent email to yourself to track to-do item or save a note for archive along with your email, this is a tool for you. Now in Apple App Store Note to Self page Binary Age T-shirts I like geeky t-shirts and created a design of my own. It shows your age in binary format and is a great conversation starter for both types of people, who can read it and who can't. You can enter your age and get a t-shirt printed through Zazzle.com Get your t-shirt HowDoable HowDoable is a project of mine that helps people keep track of important things by reusing their todo-lists. It also has some predefined tasks like sharing links or creating events on Facebook, Tweeting, emailing, adding musical gigs on LastFM and so on - they speed up on-line tasks. https://www.howdoable.com/ Open Source My projects on GitHub including: UX Capture High performance drop-in .htaccess file for your site Startup API Semantic Web FOAF-based QR-code business card generator - parces yor FOAF, generates QR code and sends it all to Zazzle to make a business card for you to order right away. My Semantic Profile - open source tool to easily edit your FOAF file, also supports RDFa and Microformats. You can see my profile at /profile/. I also contributed a couple things to Semantic MediaWiki extension to MediaWiki and used it for some of my projects. I created MediaWiki Widgets extension (now mainained by Yaron Koren) and community catalog (now maintained by Karsten Hoffmeyer [kghbln]) and contributed a few widgets myself. Is is not strictly related to semantic web, but is often used wth Semantic Mediawiki. Other links My Instructables My Blog My blog is mostly outdated and doesn't have much new information.
