An extensive community engagement process will be deployed to identify ideas and strategies to:Improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclistsEnhance access to transitPromote a cohesive streetscapeSupport local economic activityThe outcome will be a plan with Complete Streets designs for roadway, sidewalk and intersection changes that support all modes and users of all ages and abilities, builds foot traffic for local businesses, encourages interaction in public spaces, and adds vibrancy to the community.This project is made possible with the support of a Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant received by the City in partnership with the Local Government Commission. And we’re really proud of everyone’s contributions.After an extensive public process which commenced in the spring of 2018, the draft Solano Complete Streets Plan is finally here! Please e-mail any comments to Anne Hersch, Planning & Building Manager [email protected] REVIEW THE final draft plan (May 2019 draft) Review Plan Appendices During the February 28, 2019 Traffic & Safety Commission review of the draft Solano Avenue Complete Streets Plan, the Commission moved 4-0 to recommend the City Council adopt the draft Solano Avenue Complete Streets Plan with an alternative that contains a one-way uphill cycle track (south side of the street with track in the east bound direction) and bus-boarding islands with cost estimates and parking numbers for parallel parking on the north side of Solano Avenue and 60-degree angled parking and 45-degree angled parking on the south side of Solano Avenue. The City hosted small group “walk and talk” audits on Solano Avenue, followed by an evening community workshop.Workshop Activity Responses (pdf)Workshop Map Comments (pdf)Existing ConditionsOur technical consultant team, led by Toole Design Group with the Local Government Commission, is collecting and reviewing traffic and safety data, existing plans and current planning efforts, and documenting conditions along Solano Avenue.Technical Review CommitteeOn April 17th, the Technical Review Committee met and had an initial discussion of issues, opportunities, and local points of interest along Solano Avenue, and strategies to engage residents and stakeholders in development of the plan.On September 21st, the Technical Review Committee reconvened to review and comment on the draft design.
