Appalachian State University’s state-of-the-art, 1,660-seat Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts is home to a multitude of campus and community events, as well as visiting artists from across the region, nation, and the globe. A variety of activities are offered throughout the year to enhance the university’s cultural and intellectual life, contribute to the quality of life for residents of our region, and offer a dynamic arts menu to campus and community audiences. In keeping with the teaching mission of the university, programs are designed to complement classroom studies and foster lifelong learning through the arts.The venue hosts two academic year arts series every year, The Schaefer Center Presents and the APPlause K-12 Performing Arts Series, in addition to the university’s nationally acclaimed summer arts celebration, An Appalachian Summer Festival. Other campus and community events range from productions by the Hayes School of Music and the Department of Theatre and Dance to community ballet to the Banff Mountain Film Festival, among others.
